I've said this before...

But I really want to learn how to sew! I took Home Ec. In high school and sewed a lovely pair of burnt orange curtains(our couches were 70's style brown with orange flowers) for my mom. I also made a lovely baby blanket that folded into a pillow for Erin when she was born, but that has been the extent of my sewing experience. This photo at www.amybutlerdesign.com has me drooling along with the many other beautiful things on her inspiration page.
My step-mom does wonders with a sewing machine. I know she would be more than willing to teach me when we move, but I'm impatient! :) I'm considering buying a machine tonight and starting with some basic stuff. What else do I have to do? I mean it's not like we're moving in three and a half months or having a baby or anything. :)

I just ordered the pattern for this diaper bag (it's not like it will be a completely unproductive project. The baby will need a diaper bag.) and a basic sewing book from Amazon. I told you I was impatient! In my defense I did say I wanted to learn how to sew months ago! :)

My Mom taught me to sew, but I have not sewn much in years. I did make a chick costume for a friend last year, but I was so "rusty" in my sewing that I had my sister-in-law on the phone talking me through it. It turnedpretty well.

I love that outfit, AND the diaper bag! I'm afraid my only sewing project was trying to sew pajamas for the twins; the arms kept coming out inside out no matter how much effort I put into trying to right them. I was in tears out of sheer frustration, and decided it was not one of my gifts.

That said, I GREATLY admire anyone who can make clothing! My family would have been naked had we lived a few hundred years ago:)

I love the outfit and the diaper bag, too! So cute! Did you say the bag pattern is on Amazon? I might need to get that...

MCMom, I wish I would have had my stepmom teach me sooner. I think knowing how to sew is important.

Kelli, I hope my sewing adventure isn't quite so bumpy, but I have a feeling it might be since I don't like to follow directions. :)

Kristen, yes the pattern is on Amazon. It's also on a host of other sewing sites. We should learn together. :)

I used to sew, ages ago. A very satisfying 'hobby' for me....

Back in the day I was quite the little crafter, I could make pretty much everything but shoes and lightbulbs. (lol)

Now I barely make the bed. It's all megawatts and megapixels.

I have sewn things like pillows and curtains and halloween costumes that don't have to be perfect, but, I don't have the patience or the skill to do clothes - believe me I've tried. You have to be a perfectionist with patience to sew well and I am neither.
