I had the most wonderful dream last night. I was at my favorite childhood amusement park , Conneaut Lake Park, with my grandparents. As we strolled through the amusement park, more interested in conversation and laughter than any of the rides, grandpa made comments about not knowing how he managed to stay married to my grandmother for 50 plus years as my grandma laughed and swatted him on the hand. When I woke up I had to remind myself that my grandpa is gone. It was nice for those few brief moments to hear his voice, see his smiling face, and feel the warmth of his hug. After I woke up, I realized that my memories of him are slipping away. I can barely remember the sound of his voice as he said "Hello there Butch!". Butch was the nickname he gave me the second he saw my first baby picture because he said I resemble my grandma's brother, Butch.

Good memories! I miss your grandpa too and how he used to swear :) My parents and I were talking about him when I was home over Christmas and they didn't believe me when I told them he used to call you Butch. I think that we have a video tape somewhere with him on it. It was at a church dinner thing our youth group did about memories of Bruin. I'll have to hunt it up for you some time.
Also...Conneaut Lake Park had a bad fire last weekend. It destroyed a historic balloon building that housed their offices, I guess. I know that they have also recently fell into some hard times financially over the past few years...that was all the news when I lived up there...I was about an hour from it when I lived in Edinboro. It was definitely a fun park. I remember the "Wild Mouse" ride. It might have been my first rollercoaster :)

I miss my grandmother....I keep her in my heart like a pearl.

You don't have to remember all the details, just your love and how important he was to you is what would matter to him I bet.

Jen, I would love to see that video! I loved the crazy Mouse ride! I also loved the Scrambler and the haunted house ride. I was always afraid of the Blue Streak! I'm sad that it's fallen on such hard times. It was a fun park!
Cara, you are right. Remembering the love is what is important. I'm just sad that so much is slipping away.

I think they are always close to us.. I can remember his voice to some extent.. I smile when I think about his favorite expression..."holy B---s"! I can still hear him say it.
I love him

I love it when people have a special nickname for me; I'll bet that made you feel great to have a grandpa like that. :)
